HCMC – The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho is considering building a 17-kilometer western beltway to ease traffic on National Highway 91B and improve regional connectivity.

On September 15, Nguyen Van Hoa, vice chairman of the People’s Committee of Can Tho City, met with Truong Son Consulting JSC to review the project, reported the Vietnam News Agency.

The proposed road would start at National Highway 91 in Thoi Long Ward and end at National Highway 80 in Vinh Trinh Commune. The initial phase calls for a 22-meter-wide, four-lane road, while land clearance of 80 meters would be carried out to allow future expansion.

The route would include six intersections, one of which connects to the Lo Te–Rach Soi Expressway, with a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour.

Total investment is estimated at over VND8.1 trillion, including VND2.5 trillion for land clearance, VND4.4 trillion for construction, and the remainder for other costs.

Hoa urged the investor to work closely with city departments to refine the plan, ensuring feasibility, integration with existing roads, and appropriate infrastructure design.

Once completed, the western beltway is expected to cut travel time between Thoi Long and National Highway 80, ease congestion on National Highway 91B, and improve access to Vinh Thanh Industrial Park.
