CAN THO – Can Tho City has issued a new decision regarding the management and protection of the Lung Ngoc Hoang Nature Reserve covering over 2,800 hectares. This move aims to strengthen biodiversity conservation and sustainable ecotourism development in the area.
The newly approved plan focuses on strictly protecting the core zone of the reserve, which serves as a vital green lung for the Mekong Delta. Key objectives include preserving the unique wetland ecosystem, protecting endangered flora and fauna, and restoring degraded forest habitats.
Under the new regulations, any development projects within the buffer zone must undergo rigorous environmental impact assessments to ensure they do not compromise the integrity of the protected area. The city also encourages community-based tourism initiatives that align with conservation goals, providing local residents with sustainable livelihoods while raising awareness about environmental protection.
Furthermore, the decision outlines a comprehensive framework for forest fire prevention and management, particularly during the dry season. Local authorities are tasked with upgrading monitoring systems and coordinating with specialized units to respond swiftly to any environmental threats.
The Lung Ngoc Hoang Nature Reserve is renowned for its rich biodiversity, housing hundreds of species of birds, fish, and rare plants. This new legal framework is expected to provide a solid foundation for the reserve to balance ecological preservation with socio-economic growth in the coming years.
