CAN THO — Sao Mai Group plans to develop a 50MW solar power plant in Can Tho City to expand clean energy supply in the Mekong Delta, according to a company announcement.
The project will cover 53 hectares in Xa Phien Commune and require an estimated VND1 trillion. It is scheduled for implementation from 2025 to 2030.
The plant will include a 5MW energy storage system and is expected to supply more than 82,000 MWh of electricity to the national grid each year.
Site assessments indicate high solar radiation levels at the location, allowing year-round operation. The plant will be connected to the Long My–Hong Dan 110kV transmission line in line with Vietnam’s national power development plan.
Can Tho authorities are updating the project into the city’s land-use plan and guiding the investor through the required procedures. Construction is expected to begin in 2026 as the city pursues its green development goals and 2050 net-zero target.
