HCMC – Can Tho City has approved a Canadian-funded project to strengthen forest protection and improve local capacity to cope with climate change.

The project is valued at nearly VND16.5 billion, the city’s People’s Committee said. It will provide training for 30 local officials and support around 250 residents in project areas.

The program aims to help local businesses participate in the carbon credit market and reduce risks from extreme weather by expanding forest areas.

Canada expects the project to support Can Tho’s emissions reduction goals and create lessons that can be applied in other Mekong Delta provinces.

The Can Tho Department of Agriculture and Environment has been tasked with managing the project in cooperation with Canadian partners. It will be implemented in five communes and wards, including Cu Lao Dung, Lai Hoa, Vinh Hai, Vinh Phuoc, and Vinh Chau, until March 31, 2028.
