HCMC – Carlsberg Vietnam has inaugurated the expanded Phu Bai Brewery in Hue City, marking a significant step in its growth and sustainability strategy in the country.
With an investment of nearly US$90 million, the expansion increases brewing capacity by 50%, making Phu Bai Carlsberg’s largest production facility in Asia and one of its most efficient worldwide.
The facility features advanced brewing and packaging technologies that cut water use by 20% and energy consumption by 15%. It operates on renewable electricity and biomass-powered steam, with wastewater treated using advanced systems. Carlsberg aims to achieve zero waste to landfill by 2025 and net-zero emissions in production by 2028.
Speaking at the ceremony, Carlsberg Vietnam Managing Director Andrew Khan highlighted the company’s focus on efficiency, quality, and community impact. This expansion is not just about brewing more beer, but it is about brewing a better future for Vietnam, he added.
Local authorities praised the company’s long-standing role in the region. Hue City Vice Chairman Phan Quy Phuong noted that the project strengthens both economic growth and environmental stewardship in Central Vietnam.
Carlsberg, which has been present in Vietnam for over 30 years, said the expansion reinforces its commitment to sustainable growth and to supporting Vietnam’s net-zero journey.
