HCMC – Cat Bi International Airport in the northern port city of Haiphong will be upgraded to annually accommodate 13 million passengers and 250,000 tons of cargo by 2030, according to the Ministry of Transport.
The Ministry recently issued Decision No. 864/QD-BGTVT, approving the planning of Cat Bi International Airport for the 2021-2030 period with a vision towards 2050, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
Cat Bi International Airport will be upgraded to a 4E airport and a military-grade 1 airport. The upgrades will enable it to accommodate bigger aircraft such as B747, B777, B787, A350, and similar types.
Looking further ahead to 2050, the airport is planned to handle 18 million passengers and 500,000 tons of cargo annually, with around 50 aircraft parking slots.
The Ministry of Transport has directed the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to study and incorporate the assessment report from the Planning and Investment Department to implement the planning of Cat Bi airport.
The Haiphong City People’s Committee has been asked to prepare land in line with the airport’s development requirements.
