The Long Tong Festival, a cherished event of the Tay ethnic group in Lam Binh District, Tuyen Quang Province, is held annually on the 12th day of the first lunar month. Rooted in tradition, the festival is a time for prayers to God, seeking favorable weather, abundant harvests, good health, and happiness. Other ethnic groups in the district, including Dao, Mong, and Nung, also participate in this vibrant celebration.
Beyond the solemn ceremony of offering tributes to ancestors and deities, the festival is a lively affair filled with artistic performances, spirited volleyball matches, and a variety of folk games. Enthusiastic participants engage in blindfolded duck catching, spinning tops, throwing cồn (a sacred ball game of the Tay people), and catching fish, adding to the festive atmosphere.
