HCMC – The municipal government of HCMC has set an October 2026 deadline to complete land clearance and compensation for the Ben Thanh-Can Gio metro line project, aiming for a 2028 operational launch.

Under a newly issued plan, the city will finalize the project’s route and land recovery scope in the first quarter of 2026, with the full compensation and resettlement package expected for approval by May.

The 54-kilometer metro line, which broke ground in late 2025, represents a total preliminary investment of about VND102.43 trillion. The amount excludes site clearance costs of VND12.784 trillion, which will be allocated from the state budget.

Developed by VinSpeed, an infrastructure development arm of Vingroup, the Ben Thanh-Can Gio line is designed as a double-track system with a 1,435mm gauge and a maximum design speed of 350 km/h.

Starting from September 23 Park in downtown HCMC, the line will end at a 39-hectare site adjacent to the Vinhomes Green Paradise Can Gio project after passing through the wards and communes of Ben Thanh, Khanh Hoi, Xom Chieu, Tan Thuan, Tan My, Nha Be, Binh Khanh and An Thoi Dong.

This high-speed link is poised to become a strategic backbone for the city’s southward expansion, significantly reducing travel time to the coastal ecological zone.
