Covid-19 infections jump by 76

HCMC – Vietnam’s Covid-19 tally has reached 9,103 to date, with 76 latest cases being confirmed this afternoon, June 8, said the Ministry of Health.

Among the fresh infections, one patient was placed in quarantine upon his arrival in Vietnam’s Kien Giang Province, while 75 cases were locally infected.

Specifically, Bac Giang Province reported 55 cases linked to industrial zones. HCMC had 10 cases, with six cases related to the Revival Ekklesia Mission infection cluster. Bac Ninh and Lang Son provinces recorded four and five cases, respectively.

Also, the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi reported one case who is a medical worker in charge of taking care of Covid-19 patients.

The Health Ministry this afternoon also announced that a 51-year-old resident of Hung Yen Province became Vietnam’s 54th Covid-19 death. He died of hypovolemic shock caused by gastrointestinal bleeding, septic shock, pneumonia caused by Covid-19.

According to the ministry, the deceased had a medical history of toxic hepatitis, cirrhosis that he had received medical treatment multiple times.

One week before being hospitalized, he suffered from intermittent fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, indigestion, jaundice. On May 4, he was sent to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi for sepsis and cirrhosis, and he tested negative for Covid-19.

On May 9, he took the second Covid-19 test and the result came out positive.

During the treatment period at the hospital, his condition worsened and he experienced progressive respiratory failure. The man was put on a ventilator on May 26. He continued to receive intensive care treatment but had poor response to treatment. He died on June 7.

This is the 19th Covid-19 fatality in the fourth coronavirus wave in Vietnam, which began on April 27.
