Crowds paint the town red after Vietnam U22 clinch gold

HCMC – Thousands of football fans in HCMC hit the streets with flags, horns and drums for celebration after Vietnam’s U22 football team won the men’s gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games on the evening of December 18.

The team secured the title with a comeback victory over host Thailand. Soon after the final whistle, crowds moved into central areas and major roads.

The gatherings continued late into the night. Traffic slowed in several areas as residents marked the result.

The victory gave Vietnam the top prize in men’s football at the regional multi-sport event.
