HCMC – Customs offices nationwide uncovered 8,879 violations from October 15, 2025 to March 15, 2026, with an estimated total value of more than VND8 trillion, according to Vietnam Customs.
Of these, 83 cases showed signs of criminal offences, while the remaining 8,796 were handled as administrative violations.
Customs authorities have initiated legal proceedings in 10 cases, referred 55 others to law enforcement agencies for prosecution, and are continuing to investigate 18 cases with suspected criminal elements.
The Department of Vietnam Customs said smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods remain big issues, with a rising trend along maritime routes and land borders, though no major hotspots have emerged.
The violations mainly involved the trading and transport of prohibited goods and false customs declarations.
Authorities highlighted a growing trend of exploiting e-commerce platforms and social media such as Shopee, Lazada, Sendo, Facebook, TikTok, Zalo and YouTube, along with postal and express delivery services, to smuggle and trade counterfeit, substandard and untraceable goods using increasingly sophisticated methods.
Sea routes continued to account for the largest share of violations, with 4,956 cases, or 55.8% of the total. Most incidents were recorded at major seaports under the management of regional customs branches.
On land routes, 2,569 cases were detected and seized, accounting for 28.9% of the total violations, mainly along the Vietnam-China and Vietnam-Cambodia borders.
Air routes accounted for 423 cases, or 4.76% of the total, with violations valued at about VND272.9 billion, primarily at international airports including Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat and Danang. Cases detected through postal and express delivery services reached 703, or 7.92%, with an estimated value of around VND410.4 billion.
