Customs revenue rises 13.1% in first eight months

HCMC – Customs revenue from foreign trade in Vietnam in the first eight months of 2024 picked up by 13.1% versus the same period last year to VND274 trillion, showed data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

The total value of imports and exports in this period expanded by 16.7% year-on-year to US$511 billion. Vietnam recorded a trade surplus of US$19.08 billion between January and August, a 4.1% decrease from the year-ago period.

Customs authorities reported over 11,500 violations, involving goods valued at VND21.6 trillion. They initiated 16 prosecutions and referred 113 cases to other agencies for criminal investigation, with fines totaling VND474.8 billion.

For 2024, the National Assembly has set a customs revenue target of VND375 trillion, with VND204 trillion anticipated from import-export activities.

The General Department of Vietnam Customs said it would continue reforming customs policies and procedures to combat trade fraud and advance the implementation of a digital and smart customs system.
