HCMC – Tariff collections from foreign trade had reached VND306.3 trillion in the year to the end of September, achieving 81.7% of the annual target and rising by 13.5% year-on-year, reported the General Department of Vietnam Customs on October 3.
The increase in customs revenue coincided with Vietnam’s foreign trade value climbing to US$578.5 billion in the first nine months, up by 16.3% compared to the same period last year.
Exports rose by 15.4% to US$299.6 billion, while imports increased by 17.3% to US$278.8 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of nearly US$20.8 billion.
In the third quarter, customs authorities noted a significant rise in smuggling and illegal transportation cases. The number of cases directly handled by customs increased by 25%, while those referred for investigation surged by 50% against the same period last year.
