HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, April 15 confirmed 20,076 fresh Covid infections in 61 cities and provinces, dipping by over 2,900 cases against yesterday.
Hanoi City took the lead with 1,425 infections, followed by Phu Tho with 1,094, Bac Giang with 935, Yen Bai with 895, Quang Ninh with 887, Nghe An with 865 and Vinh Phuc with 813.
HCMC, Tuyen Quang, Daklak, Hai Duong, Bac Can, Lao Cai, Quang Binh, Thai Nguyen, Thai Binh and Bac Ninh detected around 500-750 cases each.
However, the health authority of Nghe An Province registered to add 53,858 cases detected earlier to the national Covid case monitoring system.
The latest Covid cases have raised the country’s case number to nearly 10.4 million.
Over 6,400 Covid patients were announced to have recovered from the disease today, taking the total recoveries to some 8.9 million, while more than 1,200 coronavirus patients are still in critical condition.
The ministry also reported 23 new Covid fatalities in 19 cities and provinces, raising the country’s coronavirus death toll to 42,924.
In related news, the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology has decided to allocate 921,600 doses of the Moderna Covid vaccine donated by the Australian Government to all 63 cities and provinces for the vaccination of children aged 5-11.
HCMC will receive the highest number at 87,500 doses, followed by Hanoi City with 72,700, the local media reported.
Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Dong Nai and Quang Ninh will receive around 20,000-35,700 doses each.
The ministry proposed the cities and provinces start the Covid inoculation drive for children aged 5-11 soon after receiving the doses.
On April 14, Quang Ninh Province began the Covid vaccination drive for sixth graders, making it the first locality to administer the Moderna vaccine to this age group.
With some 950,000 children aged 5-11, Hanoi City is set to vaccinate these children from April 17. All sixth graders will get vaccinated first.
