Daily Covid infections exceed 130,000

HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, March 5 confirmed 131,817 fresh Covid cases, marking the fourth straight day that the country’s daily Covid caseload stayed over 100,000.

Among the latest cases, 37 were imported and 131,780 were locally infected in all 63 cities and provinces, up 6,212 cases against yesterday.

Hanoi City reported most domestic infections with 25,013 cases, followed by Bac Ninh with 7,161, Nghe An with 6,460 and Son La with 4,228. Other localities detected fewer than 4,000 infections each.

The health authorities of Phu Tho and Thai Nguyen today registered to add 33,144 and 8,285 infections, respectively, to the national Covid tally management system.

Since the beginning of the Covid pandemic, the country has reported over 4.23 million cases, with more than 4.22 million domestic infections having been detected in the ongoing fourth wave of the coronavirus.

Nearly 27,000 Covid patients were announced to have fully recovered from the disease today, taking the total recoveries to over 2.6 million.

The ministry also reported 82 new Covid fatalities in 30 cities and provinces, raising the country’s Covid death toll to 40,726.

In related news, Hanoi City is seeing 326 wards, communes and towns pegged as high risk of Covid transmission, up 252 against the week earlier.

Meanwhile, the number of wards and communes in the city at moderate risk dipped to 187 from 216, according to an announcement on the Covid-19 transmission risk levels for the city and its districts released today.

The remaining 66 communes and wards in the city are at low risk, the local media reported.

Twenty of 30 districts in the city have detected Omicron-hit cases, according to the ministry.
