HCMC – Danang International Airport will handle 20 million passengers annually through 2050 and expand its aircraft parking capacity to about 52 stands, under a master plan approved by the Ministry of Construction.
The approval covers development for 2021–2030 with a long-term vision to 2050. The airport will continue operating as a joint civil and military facility within the national airport system.
By 2030, the airport is expected to meet the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) 4E classification, allowing it to serve wide-body aircraft such as Boeing 747, Boeing 787, and Airbus A350. Annual cargo capacity is projected at about 100,000 tons during this period.
By 2050, passenger capacity will remain at 20 million per year, while annual cargo throughput is set to increase to around 330,000 tons.
The plan retains the airport’s two existing runways. It also includes the construction of one rapid exit taxiway and two connecting taxiways to improve aircraft movement.
Aircraft parking areas will be expanded southward, increasing the total number of stands to about 52.
Total land allocated for the airport is projected at about 806.62 hectares, including areas for civil aviation, military use, and shared operations.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam will coordinate with the Danang City People’s Committee to publish and implement the plan in accordance with regulations.
