HCMC – A consortium including Dutch port giant APM Terminals B.V. has been selected to develop the Lien Chieu Container Terminal in the central city of Danang.

According to Decision No. 917/QD-UBND issued on March 16 by Danang City, the selected investors comprise Hateco Group JSC, Hateco Seaport LLC, and APM Terminals B.V. from the Netherlands.

The project, covering 172.6 hectares, is designated as a green, technologically advanced port. An estimated VND45,268 billion will be required to develop it in three phases lasting from 2026 to 2036.

The terminal would be able to handle 5.7 million TEUs per year, with the first phase expected to reach four million TEUs annually within three years of operation.

The facility would house eight container berths stretching 2,750 meters, capable of accommodating vessels of up to 18,000 TEUs. To streamline logistics and reduce costs, the project includes a dedicated barge wharf system for inland waterway transport and a 1.5-kilometer railway link connecting the port directly to the national rail network at Kim Lien Station.

The project has a 50-year operational term, marking a strategic milestone in Vietnam’s maritime development vision toward 2050.
