HCMC – The central city of Danang has identified a suspected case of monkeypox and placed the individual in quarantine to prevent potential community transmission, the local media reported.
The patient, who is a driver, visited Danang Hospital due to symptoms suggestive of monkeypox. This marks the first suspected case of monkeypox in Danang and the entire central region.
On the morning of October 19, the Danang Center for Disease Control said that it is awaiting test results from the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province.
Dr. Pham Truc Lam, vice director of the Danang Center for Disease Control, said that the patient’s travel history does not appear to be linked to other cases in the southern region.
He added, “Although the patient’s symptoms resemble those of hand, foot, and mouth disease rather than monkeypox, the CDC has still sent out his sample for testing.”
To date, there have been 22 reported cases of monkeypox throughout the country, with 19 in HCMC, two in Binh Duong, and one in Long An.
