DANANG – The government of Danang City has recently approved a strategic adjustment to its master plan, paving the way for the creation of a 1,800-hectare comprehensive Free Trade Zone (FTZ) across seven designated locations.

Accordingly, the city’s general plan until 2030, with a vision to 2045, has been partially revised. The total adjusted area is 1,881 hectares, with a final land allocation of about 1,790 hectares specifically for the FTZ. The new zones are spread across the wards of Hai Van and Lien Chieu, and the communes of Ba Na and Hoa Vang.

Zone 1 covering 100 hectares will see 97 hectares of land for industrial use, warehousing, and research converted. For the second zone, 67 of its 77 hectares will be re-designated from industrial and specialized green space. A significant portion of Zone 3, 463 of its 500 hectares, will be transformed from agricultural land and residential areas. The entire 559-hectare Zone 4, situated in Lien Chieu Ward and Ba Na Commune, will be converted from high-tech land.

The full 90 hectares of Zone 5, which was previously a tourism zone, will be converted. In Zone 6, various types of land including mixed-use, residential, and sports areas will be adjusted while Zone 7 will see 360 of its 401 hectares, previously specialized green space, sports, and residential land, converted for the new zone.

In another development, on the afternoon of August 27, the city officially broke ground on the first component of the new Free Trade Zone. The ceremony launched the construction and business investment chain for the infrastructure of Zone 5. This location will be part of a larger complex that also includes the construction of a cable car line and a multi-functional entertainment complex. These projects are all part of the Ba Na – Suoi Mo Ecological and Urban Tourism Complex, highlighting the city’s dual focus on economic and tourism development.
