HCMC – The government of Danang pledged to offer more scholarships to Laotian international students in Danang and provide support to several Lao south-central provinces in the fields of construction, trade, and social welfare.
This was announced during a meeting between Danang and Lao officials yesterday, August 3.
A delegation of the Savannakhet Province of Laos led by its Secretary and governor Santiphap Phomvihane paid a working visit to the central city of Danang yesterday.
The delegation will attend the International Trade, Tourism and Investment Fair of the East-West Economic Corridor held between August 3 and 8 in Danang.
Nguyen Van Quang, secretary of the Danang Party Committee, expressed his hope that the participation of Lao enterprises and the Savannakhet Province delegation will help bolster trade and investment activities between the two countries.
Phomvihane hoped that Danang and Savannakhet would continue to boost their cooperation in the socioeconomic and healthcare sectors, especially in effectively exploiting the East-West Economic Corridor.
The Laotian official added that cooperation activities between the two localities had contributed to celebrating the Laos-Vietnam 60th founding anniversary of diplomatic relations and 45 years of the signing of the Laos-Vietnam Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation.
Up to now, Danang has signed cooperation deals with seven Lao localities, including Savannakhet.
In the 2018-2022 period, the Vietnamese coastal city has provided support worth over VND115 billion to five Lao south-central provinces.
From 2023 to 2027, Danang will implement five MoUs with the five south-central localities of Laos, Savannakhet, Champasak, Sekong, Salavane and Attapeu.
Accordingly, aside from pledging support for the five Lao localities in construction, trade, and the social welfare sectors and providing additional scholarships to Laotian international students in the city, Danang will introduce some potential projects in Laos to attract Danang investors.
