HCMC – Ferry service provider Phu Quoc Express JSC plans to seek the Danang government’s approval to halt the service on the Danang-Ly Son route till the end of this year, citing poor sales and unfavorable weather as the main reasons.
The company has been offering its service on the route since April this year, using large vessels which can accommodate up to 600 passengers each. However, many trips saw few passengers. Given the ineffective operations, the service operator has incurred huge losses, Ngu Thi Dieu Binh, vice general director of Phu Quoc Express Company, told Tuoi Tre Online on July 27.
Therefore, the company is planning to suspend the service until the end of 2022, as it waits for the situation to improve and receive a higher volume of passengers.
The company is also seeking the authorities’ nod to relocate the departure point of the route from the Han River port to the CT 15 station near the Son Tra Peninsula to shorten the travel time on the route by tens of minutes and thus offer a better experience to passengers.
It could take several months to study technical issues and choose a safe docking location for the new departure point.
