HCMC – The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Danang City has proposed increasing construction aggregate supplies amid rising prices and shortages.
The department recommended allowing 11 licensed operators to apply for higher extraction quotas. It also called for recovering surplus sand from building sites to add to the low-cost supply.
Local authorities have been asked to review projects planned through 2030 to identify mining areas for auction or zones exempt from bidding, aiming to fast-track licensing so production meets project timelines.
Twenty sand mines have been auctioned to companies. Six of them, with combined reserves of 612,000 cubic meters, have been approved and are expected to secure extraction permits by August.
The new Danang City, formed by merging the former Danang City and Quang Nam Province, has 186 planned construction aggregate sites covering 1,542 hectares. These sites have estimated reserves of over 47.6 million cubic meters. As of July 15, the city had approved auction plans for 38 of these sites.
Construction sand prices in the former Danang City and Quang Nam Province have risen from about VND200,000 per cubic metre to VND800,000–900,000 this year due to tight supply.
