HCMC – Danang is set to break ground on its first resettlement area for the North-South high-speed railway project on August 19, the city’s Management Board of Investment Projects for Construction of Agricultural Works and Rural Development said.

Danang plans to establish 35 resettlement sites covering nearly 212 hectares, with more than 3,300 land lots to be made available.

The total estimated cost for site clearance and resettlement is VND16.6 trillion, with nearly VND7.5 trillion allocated for the northern area and around VND9.12 trillion for the southern area of the Thu Bon River.

The first resettlement area will cover 4.7 hectares in Dien Ban Bac Ward and include 116 land lots, with a total investment of over VND91.6 billion.

In parallel, three additional resettlement sites are also being planned in the northern area of the Thu Bon River.

Under current planning, three additional resettlement areas are being studied: the Hoa Khanh-Lien Chieu site, which will cover 16.86 hectares with 377 lots and an estimated cost of over VND420 billion; the Ba Na area, spanning 8.2 hectares with 210 lots and a projected budget of around VND226.8 billion; and the Hoa Tien site, which will occupy 15.57 hectares, providing 311 lots at a cost of more than VND392.9 billion.

On the southern side of the Thu Bon River, the city plans to develop 31 additional resettlement areas, with specific locations to be determined in the near future.

Regarding the timeline, Danang will carry out land status surveys and population assessments between September and November.

Construction of the resettlement areas is set to continue until the end of 2026, with compensation and support efforts slated to begin in March 2026.

The North-South high-speed railway section passing through Danang stretches over 116 kilometers, affecting 24 communes and wards, with an estimated 843.55 hectares of land to be acquired.

A total of 2,139 households will be impacted, creating a need for 3,148 resettlement lots.
