HCMC – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc issued a decision on July 7 to appoint Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long as the acting minister of health after Nguyen Thi Kim Tien was relieved from the position eight months ago.
Nguyen Thanh Long, born in 1966, is a professor and a doctor of infectious disease medicine, Tuoi Tre Online reported.
Long, whose hometown is in Nam Dinh Province, had earlier worked at the General Department of Preventive Medicine and the HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Department.
He served as the deputy minister of health from 2012 before being posted as deputy head of the Party Central Committee’s Ideology and Education Commission in 2018. He was reappointed as the deputy minister of health in January this year.
Since the beginning of the year, Long has significantly contributed to the Covid-19 infection prevention and control efforts.
