HCMC – HCMC’s future economic growth will be propelled by digital economy, Lam Dinh Thang, director of the HCMC Department of Information and Communications, said at the 2024 Digital Transformation Week event.
The event, jointly organized by the HCMC Department of Information and Communications and the HCMC Computer Association, commenced on October 22.
Over the past four years, the city has focused on developing its digital infrastructure, building city-wide digital platforms, ensuring information security, and fostering the growth of the digital economy, Thang said.
HCMC’s digital transformation program aims to place the city among the top five localities in e-government by 2025, with the digital economy contributing 25% of its gross regional domestic product (GRDP).
By 2030, the city plans to fully develop data infrastructure supporting a smart city framework, enhancing digital government, the digital economy, and a digital society, with widespread data sharing across all sectors.
Thang emphasized that the current challenge lies not in determining the direction but in finding practical solutions to implement these goals. He expressed hope that the discussions and contributions during the 2024 Digital Transformation Week will help address these concerns.
The city’s development strategy is centered around rapid and sustainable growth driven by science and technology, innovation, green transformation, and digital transformation, with a key focus on expanding digital infrastructure to support the digital economy and society.
