HCMC – Air ticket prices on some domestic services, particularly between Hanoi and HCMC, will decline by up to 50% next week due to the ebbing post-Tet (Lunar New Year) demand, reported the local media.
Return tickets on the HCMC-Hanoi route are expected to drop to their lowest price of VND3.5 million by the end of next week, which might further fall to VND3 million in the following week.
Weekend tickets from northern destinations like Haiphong, Thanh Hoa and Vinh to HCMC in southern Vietnam, will cost VND3 million, applicable to scheduled flights between March 22 and 24. Just several weeks ago, economy class tickets were scarce, with only business class tickets available on these routes.
From the first week of April through the week prior to the Reunification Day and International Labor Day holidays, local airlines will continue cutting airfares.
In early April, flights from Hanoi to popular tourist destinations such as Nha Trang, Dalat and Phu Quoc also see significant price drops. Return tickets on the Hanoi-Phu Quoc route will be available at as low as VND3.4 million, while Hanoi-Nha Trang and Hanoi-Dalat flights will start from VND2.5 million and VND3.6 million, respectively.
The airfare falls come as the demand for air travel recedes following the peak Lunar New Year season, coupled with declining fuel prices. However, potential price hikes usually occur during the upcoming summer season, beginning in early June.
