HCMC – Gold bar prices in Vietnam soared to an all-time high this morning, April 18, with some retailers quoting the yellow metal at VND120 million per tael, said local media reports.

At around 9:30 a.m. on April 18, Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) listed its gold bars at VND117 million per tael for buying and VND120 million for selling, up VND1.5 million and VND2 million against the previous trading session, respectively.

Several other gold traders, such as DOJI, PNJ, and Bao Tin Minh Chau, posted similar price levels, marking an all-time high for gold bars in Vietnam. The buying-selling spread was around VND3 million per tael.

Compared to last week’s closing price, the selling price of gold bars has risen by VND13.5 million per tael. Since the beginning of the year, each tael has picked up by nearly VND36 million.

Meanwhile, gold ring prices at SJC and PNJ were quoted at VND114-117 million per tael (buy-sell), unchanged from the previous day.

Bao Tin Minh Chau listed plain gold ring prices at VND116.5 million for buying and VND119.5 million for selling, up by VND1.5 million per tael on both sides.

Global gold prices edged down on April 17 following a sharp rally in the previous session. Spot gold slipped 0.5% to US$3,326.51 per ounce after hitting a record high of US$3,357.4 earlier in the day.
