Domestic gold prices hit record highs

HCMC – Domestic gold prices continued their upward spiral this morning, August 8, hitting VND124 million per tael on the selling side, matching the all-time high recorded on April 22.

At 9 a.m., Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) and Doji quoted their gold bar prices at VND122.6 million for buying and VND124 million for selling, while Phu Quy listed VND121.6 million and VND124 million, respectively. These prices are VND200,000 per tael higher in both directions compared to yesterday’s close.

Ring gold prices at Phu Quy was quoted at VND116.8 million for buying and VND119.8 million for selling, while Bao Tin Minh Chau kept its prices unchanged at VND117.8 million and VND120.8 million. The buy-sell price gap remained wide, at around VND3 million for gold rings.

On the global market, gold traded at around US$3,384 per ounce, up US$3 from yesterday. This price is equivalent to VND107.6 million per tael based on Vietcombank’s exchange rate.

The State Bank of Vietnam this morning set the central reference exchange rate at VND25,228 per U.S. dollar, down VND11 from yesterday.

Within the trading band of 5% on either side of the central reference exchange rate, Vietcombank maintained its dollar prices at VND26,030 for buying and VND26,390 for selling, while Vietinbank kept rates unchanged at VND26,015 and VND26,375. Agribank lowered its rates by VND20 to VND26,030-26,370, and BIDV reduced its rates by VND10 to VND26,030-26,390.
