Domestic gold prices leap to new highs

HCMC – Domestic gold prices jumped to record highs this morning, September 4, with SJC-branded gold quoted by local firms at nearly VND134 million per tael, the highest level ever.

As of 9:10 a.m., Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) and Doji quoted their gold bar prices at VND132.4 million for buying and VND133.9 million for selling. Phu Quy Jewelry listed its prices at VND131.5 million for buying and VND133.9 million for selling.

This morning’s session saw SJC-branded gold bars rise by VND500,000 per tael.

Gold ring prices also climbed. At Phu Quy Jewelry, both buying and selling prices were raised by VND600,000, now standing at VND126.1 million and VND129.1 million, respectively.

Bao Tin Minh Chau posted its prices at VND126.5 million on the buying side and VND129.5 million on the selling side, up VND500,000 from the previous session.

On the global market, gold was traded at around US$3,543 per ounce, down US$26 against the previous close.

The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) this morning set the central exchange rate at VND25,248 per U.S. dollar, up two dong from yesterday.

Within the permitted trading band of 5% on either side of the central reference rate, Vietcombank quoted the dollar at VND26,160 for buying and VND26,510 for selling, up two dong. BIDV and Eximbank also raised their rates by two dong to VND26,160–26,510 per dollar. Meanwhile, VietinBank kept its dollar rate unchanged at VND26,200–26,508 per dollar.
