HCMC – The southern province of Dong Nai, the country’s third biggest coronavirus hotbed, has put into operation Field Hospital No. 11 for Covid-19 patients, with 3,000 beds, the largest-ever in the province.
The field hospital is located in Xuan Hoa Commune in Xuan Loc District and was converted from a farm of the Hong Gam Livestock Company, Phan Huy Anh Vu, director of the Dong Nai Department of Health, said today, September 21.
On the first day of its operation, the field hospital received over 100 Covid patients from Nhon Trach District for treatment, the local media reported.
The establishment of the Field Hospital No. 11 has raised Dong Nai Province’s Covid treatment capacity to some 24,500 beds.
Since the ongoing fourth wave of the pandemic began in late April, Dong Nai Province has reported over 40,800 Covid infections. Over the past few days, the province’s daily Covid-19 cases have hovered around 1,000.
As such, setting up more Covid treatment facilities is necessary, contributing to easing the overload facing the healthcare system and preparing for the worst-case scenario when the number of infections surges, according to the representative of the provincial department.
Earlier on September 20, Dong Nai Province eased social distancing measures in coronavirus-free zones to help socioeconomic activities recover gradually.
Today, the competent forces decided to end the lockdown in seven wards in Bien Hoa City, with some 300,000 people, after two months of applying the stay-at-home mandate to slow down the spread of the pandemic.
