HCMC – Dong Nai Province has asked the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Construction for nearly VND1.4 trillion to repair national highways passing through the province.
The funding request, made on June 6, aims to address damage on National Highways 1A, 51, 20, and 56, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
According to local authorities, the highways have deteriorated, with National Highway 51 in particularly poor condition. Issues include peeling surfaces, subsidence, wheel ruts, potholes, and faded lane markings, raising safety concerns.
Dong Nai has estimated it would need VND850 billion for National Highway 51, over VND300 billion for National Highway 20, more than VND140 billion for National Highway 1A, and around VND65 billion for National Highway 56.
The province said it had repeatedly asked the Ministry of Transport (now merged into the Ministry of Construction), and the Department for Roads of Vietnam to inspect the damaged roads and propose solutions.
Authorities stressed the urgent need for funding to upgrade road surfaces, improve traffic infrastructure, and install or replace traffic signs and signals. They also called for enhanced coordination with local governments to address traffic accident hotspots.
Dong Nai is currently allocating large sums for major infrastructure projects. These include over VND3 trillion for the Bien Hoa–Vung Tau Expressway, nearly VND2 trillion for the Beltway 3–HCMC section, and more than VND14 trillion for the Beltway 4–HCMC project. The province said these commitments have left it unable to finance the highway repairs on its own.
