HCMC – Dong Nai Province authorities have sought the Government’s approval to use fund from allocated capital for the site clearance, compensation and resettlement work of the Long Thanh International Airport project.
From 2019 to 2021, Dong Nai Province was allocated over VND22.8 trillion to implement the site clearance work of the project, and had disbursed VND18 trillion for the project as of the end of 2021, according to the provincial government.
The province will have to suspend the disbursement this month as the use of the capital has expired, the local media reported.
As such, Dong Nai proposed the Government allow the provincial government to use the allocated capital so that it can continue the site clearance work.
The provincial government attributed the slow disbursement to the impact of Covid.
In 2021, the province imposed social distancing for four months. During the social distancing period, the competent agencies failed to conduct procedures related to the site clearance and compensation, while the construction on the Loc An-Binh Son resettlement area for the big-ticket airport project was also prolonged due to the pandemic.
In addition, several cases in which households transferred or sold their land affected by the project to others without going through proper legal procedures also hindered the compensation work.
The land reclamation, compensation and resettlement project for the Long Thanh International Airport project costs over VND22.8 trillion. Of the total, over VND4 trillion is used to develop resettlement areas, nearly VND18 trillion to compensate and support affected households, and the rest to develop infrastructure outside the boundary of the airport and provide training courses and jobs for local residents.
