HCMC – The southern province of Dong Nai has agreed to supply an additional 600,000 cubic meters of construction aggregate for the Long Thanh International Airport project.
The new allocation brings the total volume of construction aggregate provided by the province for the airport to over 4.3 million cubic meters.
Dong Nai has supplied nearly 8.4 million cubic meters of stone for major infrastructure projects in southern Vietnam, including the Bien Hoa–Vung Tau expressway and other Government-funded developments, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
Under Government Resolution 168 and Decree 02, which allows special mineral exploitation mechanisms, Dong Nai has increased extraction at three quarries by 50%, adding about 700,000 cubic meters of rock.
Authorities said the entire increased output must be used for the airport. However, quarrying processes also produce by-products unsuitable for airport construction.
Dong Nai has proposed using the excess material for other public projects while maintaining the committed supply for the airport.
The province has 32 licensed quarries with total reserves of 265 million cubic meters and a designed annual capacity of 22 million cubic meters.
Most quarries in the province faced legal and licensing issues at the beginning of 2025, leading to reduced output. Authorities have since addressed these issues, allowing several quarries to resume or expand operations.
