CAN THO – The Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap has established a task force to oversee the conversion of the Mekong Software Park into a centralized digital technology zone to accelerate infrastructure development and attract technology investment.
According to a decision by the provincial People’s Committee, the task force will advise provincial authorities on reviewing criteria and completing legal procedures to ensure the park meets government standards for designation as a centralized digital technology zone.
The group will also monitor implementation progress and urge departments and related agencies to complete technical infrastructure and data infrastructure on schedule.
In addition, the task force will help resolve administrative, land clearance, and investment incentive issues. It will coordinate promotional activities and outreach to attract major technology firms to invest in the planned digital technology zone.
Le Quang Khoi, director of the Dong Thap Department of Science and Technology, has been appointed head of the task force. The deputy heads are Nguyen Dinh Thong, deputy director of the provincial Department of Finance, and Tran Hoa Y, director of Dong Thap Telecommunications.
The Mekong Software Park was approved in 2018 by Tien Giang Province, which was merged into Dong Thap to form a new province called Dong Thap.
The park was designed to develop and operate infrastructure for the information technology industry, particularly software production and IT services, in Tien Giang and the wider Mekong Delta region.
It also aims to provide technical infrastructure and solutions for e-government and smart city development, while supporting training and workforce development for the digital economy.
The park covers more than 70,000 square meters and was planned with two functional zones: one for core operations and another for service provision.
