HCMC – The Department for Roads of Vietnam (DRVN) expects 10 additional rest areas on expressways to begin operations by January 31.

The new rest areas are located on the following sections: National Highway 45–Nghi Son, Dien Chau–Bai Vot, Bung–Van Ninh, Van Ninh–Cam Lo, Quang Ngai–Hoai Nhon, Hoai Nhon–Quy Nhon, Quy Nhon–Chi Thanh, Phan Thiet–Dau Giay, Can Tho–Hau Giang, and Hau Giang–Ca Mau.

The rest stop on the Vinh Hao–Phan Thiet section at Km144 has not been implemented because local authorities have not yet handed over land.

While the facilities are still being completed, the DRVN has released information on rest area locations, expressway access points, and nearby services to ensure traffic safety and meet travel demand during the Lunar New Year 2026.

The DRVN noted that most expressway interchanges connecting with national highways, provincial roads, and local roads already have fuel stations, food outlets, and basic services, allowing drivers to stop, refuel, and rest during long-distance travel.

At present, five official rest areas are operating on the North–South Expressway between Hanoi and Can Tho cities. These include Gie–Ninh Binh, Cao Bo–Mai Son, La Son–Hoa Lien, HCMC–Long Thanh–Dau Giay, and HCMC–Trung Luong.

A vehicle stop on the Danang–Quang Ngai Expressway is also in operation and serving traffic demand.

The DRVN has signed contracts to invest in, build, and operate 21 rest areas along the eastern section of the North–South Expressway. Investors are accelerating construction with the aim of completing the full rest area system in 2026.

By the end of 2025, 10 rest areas had completed essential service facilities and entered operation. These are on the Mai Son–National Highway 45, Nghi Son–Dien Chau, Ham Nghi–Vung Ang, Vung Ang–Bung, Cam Lo–La Son, Van Phong–Nha Trang, Nha Trang–Cam Lam, Cam Lam–Vinh Hao, Vinh Hao–Phan Thiet (Km205), and Phan Thiet–Dau Giay (right side of the route) sections.

As of late 2025, the expressway network had a total of 15 operating rest areas and one vehicle stop, meeting basic needs for road users.
