HCMC – Storm Bualoi has claimed 36 lives and left 21 others missing, while causing economic losses of more than VND11.4 trillion, according to the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
As of this morning, 147 people were reported injured. The storm destroyed 160 houses and damaged nearly 155,000 others, while inundating over 51,000 hectares of farmland and 13,400 hectares of aquaculture. More than 1,400 schools were affected, and landslides and flooding disrupted traffic at some 6,800 locations in northern and north-central provinces.
Ha Tinh suffered the heaviest damage at VND6 trillion, followed by Lao Cai with VND2.75 trillion and Nghe An with VND1.6 trillion.
The storm also downed more than 8,200 power poles and 65,000 trees, leaving 2.7 million households without electricity.
Floodwaters have started receding as rainfall has eased since yesterday. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting forecast water levels on major northern rivers would continue to fall in the next 12 hours, but warned of flooding risks in low-lying areas and pressure on dykes and embankments.
