CAN THO – The Government has ordered eight Mekong Delta provinces to mobilize resources to support Tien Giang and Kien Giang to slow the spread of Covid-19.
The eight provinces — An Giang, Bac Lieu, Ben Tre, Ca Mau, Hau Giang, Vinh Long, Soc Trang and Tra Vinh — are tasked with helping Kien Giang and Tien Giang conduct testing, contact tracing and vaccination, and monitor people who came into close contact with confirmed Covid cases.
Besides, the Government asked the leaders of Tien Giang and Kien Giang to map out plans to arrange and place anti-virus forces from the eight provinces to intensify the fight against Covid-19.
Earlier on September 13, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, head of the national anti-virus steering committee, held an online meeting and conducted a check on the implementation of Covid-19 infection prevention and control measures in Tien Giang and Kien Giang.
Speaking at the meeting, the prime minister asked the two provinces to adopt more effective Covid safety measures and bring the pandemic under control as soon as possible, no later than September 30.
In addition, these provinces were told to handle corruption and profiteering cases during the pandemic.
As of September 14, Tien Giang Province had reported 12,468 infections, while Kien Giang detected 3,385 cases.
