ELCOM: Standing with communities across Vietnam

By T. Quang

Founded in 1995, ELCOM has steadily established itself as one of Vietnam’s leading technology companies, playing a vital role in fields such as information technology, smart transportation, telecommunications, and digital transformation. But beyond its reputation as a technology pioneer, ELCOM is also known as a steadfast companion of communities in need. Through a series of corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, the company has reached out to people across the country—supporting flood-stricken households, bringing healthcare to remote areas, and offering opportunities for disadvantaged children.

Extending a hand after devastating floods

On September 12, 2025, residents of My Ly Commune in Nghe An Province received vital aid from an ELCOM relief mission. The community had been left reeling from the destruction of Typhoon No. 3, one of the most severe storms in recent years. Many families lost homes, food supplies, and livestock, facing days of near-total isolation due to landslides and swelling rivers.

My Ly is a remote border commune, located amid rugged mountains with poor infrastructure. According to local authorities, 436 households reported damage to their homes and grain stores after the storm. Of these, 220 households lost more than 70% of their houses, while many others reported significant structural damage. The worst-hit area was Cha Nga Village, near the upper Nam Non River at the Vietnam–Laos border, where dozens of supposedly solid houses were swept away entirely, leaving families with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

In response, ELCOM organized a company-wide fundraising drive, calling on staff to donate the equivalent of one day’s salary, supplemented by contributions from philanthropists outside the company. In just a short time, more than VND252 million was raised to support the two hardest-hit villages: Xang Tren and Cha Nga.

At Xang Tren, all 65 affected households received VND1 million in cash each—an immediate lifeline to help purchase essential supplies. Reaching Cha Nga, however, was a formidable challenge. Relief workers had to abandon vehicles outside the commune, trek along treacherous landslide-prone trails, and then cross the raging Nam Non River by boat for nearly two hours. Despite the risks, the ELCOM team persisted, determined to reach the community most in need.

At Cha Nga, relief packages included medical supplies and cash grants scaled to the severity of each household’s losses: VND3 million for homes destroyed beyond 70%, VND2 million for 50–70% damage, and VND1 million for households facing 30–50% destruction. These timely contributions not only addressed urgent needs but also symbolized solidarity and compassion in the face of disaster.

ELCOM’s leadership emphasizes that “kindness” is the company’s core value, and the My Ly mission demonstrated that in action—supporting families at the right place, at the right time, and in the right way.

This was not the first time the company mobilized for flood victims. In October 2024, Typhoon Yagi, considered one of the strongest ever recorded in Vietnam, devastated northern provinces including Cao Bang and Yen Bai. ELCOM responded with a swift emergency campaign, raising VND600 million for immediate relief. Company leaders delivered funds directly to the provincial authorities in Cao Bang and organized a truckload of food, clean water, bedding, and medicines to hard-hit communities in Yen Bai. Employees themselves joined distribution efforts, underscoring the company’s hands-on approach to CSR.

Bringing healthcare to remote highlands

Healthcare access has long been one of ELCOM’s CSR priorities. In collaboration with the Nghe An Student Volunteer Group of Hanoi Medical University, the company has supported annual “Highland Volunteer” campaigns to provide free check-ups, treatment, and medicines to underserved communities.

In March 2024, the campaign titled “Seeds” brought medical teams to Muong Chieng Commune in Hoa Binh Province. In March 2025, under the theme “Green Swallows,” the initiative reached Bang Huu and Lien Son communes in Lang Son Province.

ELCOM played a dual role—as sponsor and active participant—by supporting logistics and joining young doctors in consultations, medicine distribution, and health counseling. Beyond healthcare, gift packages were delivered to policy households and families in need.

These missions not only addressed immediate medical gaps but also strengthened the link between enterprises and social organizations in narrowing the urban–rural healthcare divide.

Bringing joy to children in need

Children in disadvantaged areas have been another focus of ELCOM’s community programs. Since 2023, the company has initiated the “Moonlit Love” campaign to deliver warm and joyful Mid-Autumn Festivals to children in remote schools and orphanages.

In September 2023, the campaign reached Ban Coi Primary School in Xuan Son Commune, Phu Tho Province, where hundreds of children received gifts, school supplies, and storybooks. In September 2024, the program continued at Thien Huong Pagoda in Hung Yen Province, home to orphaned children. A Mid-Autumn fair organized by ELCOM brought not just presents but also laughter, lanterns, and festive cheer.

The company has also joined broader initiatives such as the “Rice with Meat” campaign, which funds nutritious meals for children in mountainous regions. In late 2023, ELCOM staff enthusiastically joined by purchasing calendars to contribute to the campaign—each purchase providing three meals for students in need. The program became a heartfelt reminder that small, collective actions can make a lasting difference.

A culture of responsibility

ELCOM’s CSR journey reflects a broader corporate philosophy: that technology should serve not only economic growth but also social well-being. From disaster relief to healthcare access and child welfare, the company’s programs highlight values of timeliness, compassion, and sustainability.

As Vietnam continues to face both natural and social challenges, ELCOM’s approach shows how businesses can become pillars of resilience. Nearly three decades since its founding, the company has not only advanced Vietnam’s digital transformation but also fostered a culture of empathy, ensuring that no community is left behind.

“For ELCOM, CSR is not an obligation—it is part of who we are. Our mission is to innovate for the future while standing side by side with those in need today,” said the company’s representative.
