HCMC – Electricity consumption in Vietnam is expected to surge by 12.2% this year to 347 billion kWh, up by 37 billion kWh against 2024 if GDP growth exceeds 8%, according to the National Electricity System and Market Operation (NSMO) Company Limited.

Vu Xuan Khu, deputy general director of NSMO, said that efforts to secure electricity supply for 2025 have been underway since late 2024.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade also approved the 2025 power system operation plan ahead of schedule.

During the final months of 2024 and the dry season of early 2025 (January to March), NSMO will prioritize coordination with power grid management units and electricity corporations to accelerate maintenance, repairs, and the rectification of equipment issues. These efforts aim to ensure the power grid is fully prepared by April 2025.

The company is also scheduling maintenance and repairs for power generation units during periods of lower demand, primarily in late 2024 and early 2025, to prevent disruptions.

According to NSMO, the top priority remains securing a stable power supply to support Vietnam’s socio-economic growth, as directed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, while maintaining economic efficiency in system operations.
