Employees’ average income slightly down in Q2

HCMC – The average monthly income of workers was VND8.2 million per person in the second quarter of the year, down by VND58,000 against the previous quarter yet up by VND800,000 year-on-year, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

In the first half of the year, average monthly income rose to VND8.3 million, a year-on-year increase of 10.1%, or VND760,000.

The second quarter saw an increase in both the labor force and the number of employed workers. Unemployment and underemployment rates among the working-age population continued to decline against the same period last year.

The labor force aged 15 and above was estimated at 53.1 million in the second quarter, rising by 169,800 against the previous quarter and by 553,200 year-on-year. Over the first half of the year, the labor force averaged 53.0 million, up 542,600 from the same period last year.

The proportion of trained workers with diplomas or certificates reached 29.1% in the second quarter, up 0.3 percentage point from the first quarter and one percentage point versus the year-ago period.

Between January and June, the rate stood at 29%, an increase of one percentage point compared to the same period in 2024.

Vietnam’s employed workforce in the second quarter of 2025 reached 52 million, up by 138,600 from the previous quarter and 544,100 year-on-year. The underemployment rate among the working-age population was 1.73%, a slight increase of 0.01 percentage point from the first quarter but down 0.33 percentage point from a year earlier.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate among working-age individuals stood at 2.24%, up 0.04 percentage point quarter-on-quarter but 0.05 percentage point lower than the same period last year.
