HCMC – Ericsson on September 12 inaugurated a new office in Hanoi City, underscoring its commitment to Vietnam’s digital transformation and expansion of 5G services.

The Swedish telecoms equipment maker said the office will serve as a hub for partnerships with government, operators, enterprises, and academia in sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, and smart cities.

“This opening demonstrates Ericsson’s long-term commitment to Vietnam,” said Rita Mokbel, president of Ericsson Vietnam. She added that the company has worked with local operators Viettel, VNPT, and Mobifone from the rollout of 2G to today’s 5G deployment.

The Hanoi office is Ericsson’s first in Vietnam to adopt its enterprise virtual cellular network (EVCN), which allows enterprises to manage 5G connectivity for mobile devices and IT applications.

Vietnam aims for its digital economy to contribute 30% of GDP by 2030, with 5G designated as critical infrastructure. Ericsson said it plans to support this target through technology cooperation and talent development programs.

As part of the launch, the company showcased applications including holographic communication, AI-enabled smart glasses, advanced 5G uplink technology, immersive sports engagement, and 5G-powered robotics.

Ericsson also highlighted initiatives with local universities such as PTIT, RMIT, and the University of Transport and Communications to build skills in 5G, AI, and digital technologies.
