- Southern Vietnam heat reached up to 40 degrees Celsius
- Widespread heatwave sweeps Vietnam, peaking at 39 degrees Celsius
HCMC – A severe heatwave has swept across large parts of Vietnam, with temperatures today exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in several locations, as authorities warned of heightened fire risks and health impacts.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said extreme heat will persist from April 8 to 9 in the central region, stretching from Thanh Hoa to Danang, as well as eastern areas from Quang Ngai to DakLak.
Temperatures in these areas are forecast to range between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius, with some locations surpassing 40 degrees Celsius, while relative humidity could drop to as low as 35-40%.
Northwestern provinces are also experiencing intense heat, with temperatures commonly reaching 36 to 38 degrees Celsius, and exceeding 38 degrees Celsius in some areas. Humidity levels there are expected to range between 45% and 50%.
In the southern Red River Delta, the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam, temperatures are forecast at 35 degrees Celsius to 36 degrees Celsius, with some areas recording higher levels. Relative humidity in these regions is expected to hover between 50% and 55%.
The combination of extreme heat and low humidity has raised the risk of fires and explosions in residential areas, as electricity demand surges. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures may also lead to dehydration.
