HCMC – Phu Tho authorities have announced that starting from 2 p.m. today, October 4, residents can travel across the Red River in the Phong Chau bridge area by ferry.
The 249th Brigade of the Engineer Corps under the Ministry of National Defense put into operation two ferries this afternoon.
Nguyen Van Hung, vice chairman of Tam Nong District, Phu Tho Province, said the two ferries operate from morning until 22:00 everyday, with each trip carrying around 90 passengers together with rudimentary vehicles like bicycles and motorcycles.
Authorities have suspended the use of the pontoon bridge due to rising water levels of the Red River. The strong currents carry along fallen trees and other obstacles which affect the normal operation of the pontoon bridge, leading to safety risks.
