LAO CAI – The morning of February 17, the Lunar New Year’s Day, saw 17.4 tons of fresh durians becoming the first export shipment to clear the Kim Thanh International Border Gate No. 2 in Lao Cai Province for the Year of the Horse 2026.
The shipment, managed by Hai Minh Trading & Forwarding Co., completed customs procedures smoothly, marking a good start for cross-border trade (with China) in the Lunar New Year.
To ensure seamless import-export activities from the very first day of the Year of the Horse, the Lao Cai Province Economic Zone Authority told all functional forces to maintain full staffing levels throughout the Tet holiday so as to facilitate rapid clearance for businesses and to step up bilateral trade.
Customs authorities have implemented comprehensive measures to ensure both security and efficiency. Logistics chains, encompassing plant quarantine, customs declaration, warehousing, and transshipment, have been streamlined to maximize convenience for enterprises while ensuring strict legal compliance.
In 2025, the Lao Cai International Border Gate Customs recorded budget revenue of VND1,212.5 billion (about US$46.7 million), a 45.7% increase compared to 2024 and the highest level since 2020.
