HCMC – Authorities identified one of the eight missing victims in the Phong Chau Bridge collapse as they discovered a body floating in the Red River near Vinh Lai Commune, Lam Thao District on September 14.
The body was confirmed to be Nguyen Thi H, a 47-year-old resident of Thach Dong Commune, Thanh Thuy District, Phu Tho Province. This is the first victim found since the bridge collapsed nearly a week ago.
The body was handed over to the family for funeral arrangements following identification. The search for the remaining missing victims is ongoing.
The Phong Chau Bridge collapse occurred on September 9, when strongly flowing floodwaters in the Red River caused two main spans of the bridge to collapse.
Ten vehicles, including trucks, motorcycles and a car, plunged into the river during the incident, with eight people suspected of falling into the river.
