Viet Duc University Hospital in Hanoi successfully conducted Vietnam’s first simultaneous heart and liver transplant on a 41-year-old patient suffering from severe organ failure, according to the Nguoi Lao Dong news site.

Diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy, the patient’s condition was critical, and the transplant was his only hope for survival.

Meanwhile, Nghe An General Hospital reported a brain-dead patient whose family consented to organ donation. A team from Viet Duc quickly assessed the donor organs, confirming their viability. After approval, the heart and liver were transported approximately 300 kilometers from Nghe An to Hanoi. The complex eight-hour surgery was a success, with the new heart beating immediately after transplantation. Within 36 hours, both organ functions showed steady recovery. By October 9, the patient was able to speak, eat, and interact with others, showing significant improvement in both organ functions.

Tomb of 32 war martyrs discovered

When digging the ground to build the foundation for their new house, Dinh Van Thanh, head of a family in Dak Po District, Gia Lai Province, found bones and belongings buried in the ground long time ago. He promptly reported his discovery to local authorities.

On October 6, the Military Command of Gia Lai Province affirmed that the bones, buttons, military water canteens, ball point pens, shoe soles, mags and bullets, wallets, combs, pipes, and bronze bracelets are the remains of 32 war martyrs, though the exact time of their sacrifice remains unidentified.

The provincial Military Command is expanding the excavation site to see whether there are more remains or not, and is trying to identify the names and origins of these war martyrs, vnexpress.net reported.

The good deed of a truck driver

On September 30, Linh Van Toan, 31, a truck driver living in Ha Giang Province, was driving his truck on Provincial Road 177 from Xin Man District to Bac Quang District in the province. At Km7, seeing water pouring strongly from the mountain down to the road due to heavy rain, thus preventing some motorcyclists from crossing the flooded section, Toan decided to drive his truck slowly across the flooded section, making use of the heavy weight of the truck to block part of the swift current for these motorbikers to be able to cross the dangerous section.

Toan told thanhnien.vn that these passers-by had to wait for over an hour, as they did not dare to cross the flooded section. He then decided to do so to help them cross the dangerous current without thinking about the danger facing his truck, and even his own life.

Toan has been working as a truck driver for a decade. He has also driven his truck on this road for many years. On that day, facing the flooded section, he phoned the owner of the truck and sent him some photos of the scene, intending to wait for the water to recede. The video featuring Toan using his truck to block the swift current for some people to ride their motorbikes across the flooded section went viral on social media these days.

A nice, clean and friendly restroom

The restroom at Thanh Son 1 Filling Station on National Highway 20 in Thong Nhat District, Dong Nai Province, has been dubbed “the cleanest, most beautiful and most unique restroom in Vietnam” by most drivers and passengers who have come over to the place.

Nguyen Van Tuan, director of the gas station, has created such a reputation for the public toilet with eye-catching decorations and music. He also hires six employees to take turns to work in three eight-hour shifts every day to keep the restroom fragrant and clean around the clock.

Tuan has had the front wall of the restroom facing gasoline pumps painted in pink color. All the isles in the public toilet are decorated with wallpapers depicting natural scenes to make it comfortable for users. He has also collected poems and proverbs about family life and printed them on the restroom walls as food for thought.

Tuan told thanhnien.vn that his filling station and the restroom have been operational for over two decades. To offer guests a free but clean and friendly public toilet, he has placed many pots of flowers around it. The restroom is also fitted with decoration lamps and music players.
