HCMC – The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has warned that flash floods and landslides triggered by torrential rains in the aftermath of typhoon Yagi will hit the northern mountainous areas.
The typhoon, the third that had hit the country this year, did not directly strike the northern mountainous provinces, but its circulation has led to heavy rainfall, which could induce flash floods and landslides.
In Hoa Binh Province, heavy rain triggered a landslide that destroyed a two-story house and thus killed four people there.
Lao Cai Province also experienced severe rainfall. On September 8, a landslide in Muong Hoa Commune, Sapa Town buried several people and affected four households, leaving six people dead and nine others injured.
From the evening of September 9 to September 10, the northwestern provinces will see rainfall of 50 to 100 mm, with some areas possibly exceeding 200 mm.
