HCMC – Coastal areas in southeastern Vietnam are expected to experience flood tides from February 28 to March 5, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
During this period, water levels at the Vung Tau station are forecast to peak at 4.1–4.2 meters, raising concerns about flooding in low-lying areas, riverbanks, and regions outside the dike system.
Between March and May 2025, the region is expected to face six more flood tide periods, occurring on March 13–18, March 29–April 3, April 11–17, April 27–30, May 12–15, and May 26–29.
High flood tides will slow drainage in rivers across the region, leading to potential flooding in the early morning and early afternoon, particularly in coastal and low-lying areas.
The Department of Dike Management and Disaster Prevention has urged affected provinces and cities to closely monitor weather updates and inform residents to take preventive measures.
Authorities are inspecting residential areas, dikes, reservoirs, and other high-risk locations to prepare for potential evacuations if needed.
Local governments have been instructed to implement drainage measures, protect agricultural production, reinforce aquaculture ponds, and harvest mature crops in advance. Boat and ship owners are also being advised to take necessary precautions to safeguard vessels, equipment, and infrastructure.
