HCMC – Four sections of the Eastern North-South Expressway in central Vietnam will be opened to traffic during the upcoming Reunification Day (April 30) holiday.
The four sections are Van Phong-Nha Trang in Khanh Hoa Province, Bai Vot-Ham Nghi in Ha Tinh Province, Ham Nghi-Vung Ang in Ha Tinh Province, and Bung-Van Ninh in Quang Binh Province.
On this occasion, a 20-kilometer section of the Ben Luc–Long Thanh Expressway which links Long An and Dong Nai provinces and passes through HCMC will also be put into operation. This section runs from National Highway 1A to Nguyen Van Tao intersection in Nha Be District, HCMC
Le Quyet Tien, head of the Department of Construction Economics and Investment Management under the Ministry of Construction, said that to achieve the Government’s goal of having a combined 3,000 kilometers of expressway this year, 28 expressway projects and component projects with a total of 1,188 kilometers are underway and could be completed within this year.
These projects and component projects are divided into two groups.
The first group consists of 16 projects and component projects with a total length of 786 kilometers. Among them are four component projects of the North–South Expressway, namely Bai Vot–Ham Nghi, Ham Nghi–Vung Ang, Bung–Van Ninh, and Van Phong–Nha Trang.
These expressway sections are scheduled to be basically opened to traffic during the April 30 holiday. Currently, the construction progress basically meets the required timeline.
The second group includes 12 projects and component projects with a total length of 402 kilometers. To ensure completion this year, challenges related to site clearance and construction material supply must be resolved.
Site clearance work remains slow at several projects, including the Bien Hoa–Vung Tau Expressway and the HCMC Beltway No.3 section in Dong Nai Province; the Khanh Hoa–Buon Ma Thuot Expressway in Khanh Hoa and Dak Lak provinces; and the Tuyen Quang–Ha Giang Expressway in Tuyen Quang Province.
The Ministry of Construction has urged local authorities to take decisive action and complete site clearance by April 15.
