HCMC – A freight train derailment last night has disrupted rail services on Vietnam’s key North-South rail line, leaving the Hai Van Pass route blocked.

The ASY2 train, carrying 20 freight cars with a total load of 840.7 tons, derailed at 9:10 p.m. on Nov 1 as it was approaching Hai Van Nam station in Danang.

According to the Safety Management Department II at Vietnam Railways, three of the train’s cars derailed, overturning three containers which blocked the SE7 passenger train, which was heading south and had reached the Hai Van rail area.

Passengers from the SE7 were transferred to a 45-seat bus and transported to Danang to continue their journey south.

As of this morning, recovery operations are underway, with heavy machinery working on-site to reopen the line.
